Big Trouble Store is pleased to announce the arrival of the long-awaited Fall Winter 23 delivery from paa. The house of paa has been busy at work the past few months assembling their fabric focused collection of hats, sweats, jackets and pants right out of their home country of USA. This season sees paa apply even more of their studied textile knowledge to a broader range of items, so let’s take a closer look at the key pieces that have just landed in-store and online at Big Trouble Store.
GRAINSTOP
Fabric is at the forefront of all of paa’s operations. While already sourcing a variety of materials from the world’s finest factories, founders Peter Jurado and Al Verik went a step further. They went to Lombardy in Italy to develop their own exclusive cloth known as GRAINSTOP, which is made from a blend of nylon, linen and cotton. While that sounds fairly straightforward, the unique texture – resembling something between basketweave and checkerboard – is unlike anything handled previously.
This proven combination of fibre types also allows GRAINSTOP to possess desirable material features, including windproof and water-resistant properties. Following GRAINSTOP’s debut in 2022 across a small range, paa has added more styles using the innovative fabric into the mix. Following up from last year’s matching Parka and Windbreaker Pant set, the updated L/S Shirt 3.5 and Pleat Cap have arrived in classic black – the latter is already sold out, so get in touch with what you want to see in the next paa delivery so you don’t miss out.
HEADWEAR
Don’t fret, there are some other heady headwear options that are available now from paa. Besides materials, paa also excels at playing with silhouette to deliver, in their own words, “a grey area between classic and experimental, basic and left-of-centre”. This is clearly seen with the shape of the Four Panel Cap in “Midnight”, which uses a wool and nylon combination milled in Japan.
There’s also new colours in the Combo Stitch Beanie: “Atmosphere”, “Deep Hunter” and “Green Ice”. This staple piece returns in super soft, pre-washed Italian merino wool so it’s gentle on skin right out of the packet. And, as its name suggests, there are two types of patterns woven to form the beanie. The outer layer uses half cardigan knit while the inner face opts for waffle knit. Warm, soft, not too heavy and made in USA – what more do you need?
CORE CLASSICS
Rounding out the new paa delivery at Big Trouble Store is the Utility Pant 1.5 in navy. Starting with the fabric (as is the case with all paa products), it’s a classic combination of cotton and nylon reminiscent of the 60/40 cloth that was popularised during the 1970s outdoors adventure boom. However, paa tweak the ratio slightly by adding a touch more cotton to the grosgrain weave, resulting in their own inconspicuous finish. More noticeable are the gusseted patch pockets on the backside and thigh that can carry a surprisingly large amount of goods, plus the wide belt loops and ring snap closure at the fly.
Completing the capsule is the
L/S Big Rig Shirt, which returns to Big Trouble Store in a new colour – matching up to the Four Panel Cap in “Midnight”. This shacket can easily be worn on its own as a shirt or layered on top as a jacket. This season’s version goes just a little luxurious with its rich wool twill blend for that positively tingling on-skin feel, backed up with a touch of nylon to ensure durability. Finished with Japanese hardware and YKK zippers, this is a proper quality garment.
