Simple, functional and always comfortable. Eiichiro Homma has carried this ethos into every collection as the main brain behind Nanamica and The North Face Purple Label. The best bits from Nanamica Spring Summer 24 have just arrived at Big Trouble Store, so let’s take a closer look.
2L GORE-TEX Soutien Collar Coat
The outerwear category houses many of Nanamica’s signature pieces, including the 2L GORE-TEX Soutien Collar Coat. A year-round staple, this 2-Layer version is lighter than the hardcore 3L variant used for Fall Winter while offering more than enough waterproof protection for Australian rain thanks to the GORE-TEX lining. The classy mid-thigh length, original check pattern lining and namesake soutien collar are reprised for SS24, but the Charcoal grey shade is a welcome addition to the usual navy.
S/S Polo Shirt
Given that Homma draws from heritage sporting for his designs, it perhaps comes as no surprise that a Polo Shirt is part of Nanamica’s range. As a master of subtlety, it’s the little details that set this polo apart from other homogenous designs. The pique fabric blends cotton and polyester to achieve a harmonious balance of structure and breathability, which is then cut into a relaxed fit without looking too oversized. Generous sleeve ribbing, reinforced pocket stitching and snap collar buttons speak to the simple, functional and comfortable ethos as outlined above.
Ivy Pants
2L GORE-TEX Coach Jacket
Continuing the sportswear theme is the 2L GORE-TEX Coach Jacket. The silhouette is key in achieving the flowing “City Boy” look pioneered by renowned stylist Akio Hasegawa who has also directed many Nanamica lookbooks.
Deck Pants
An exemplar of Nanamica’s excellent trousers are the Deck Pants. Something of a hybrid between a pair of slacks and track pants, this best-of-both-worlds combo presents smart but simultaneously allows maximum movement. The generously cut thighs provide extra room before the lower half is smartly tapered into an elastic cuff to achieve a flattering look. Front pleats, side waist buttons, darted knees, shirred rear waistband and internal drawstring all appear on the one pant for an old-meets-new pant Megazord.
Crew Neck L/S Thermal Tee
While Nanamica’s outerwear and pants receive a lot of love, don’t disregard their versatile layering options. Their take on thermals is a quirky but clever one, which demonstrates their penchant for playing with silhouettes. Instead of traditional thermal cuts like henley shirts, this version takes inspiration from 1970s baseball shirts, evident by the dropped shoulders and curved hem. This allows the top to be worn as both a layer underneath a jacket (as shown here) or as a standalone item.
Light Easy Pant
The final major arrival is the Light Easy Pant in Khaki. Most Nanamica fans will be familiar with the tapered cut, elastic waist and pockets galore. This season sees custom weather cloth – polyester core yarn wrapped in cotton – for a more rustic look compared to the sheenier ALPHADRY fabric used in previous seasons.
